A Family Affair

This past Sunday was one of the most unique and fun days of the year at Pi Chapter. The Kappa Delta house (and let's be honest, much of the space around the house, too) was consumed with miles of string. From the stairs, to the hallways, the bedrooms and everywhere in between, String Hunt was no easy task this year, but the end results were definitely worth it.

The Sophomore pledge class spent an hour on Sunday, and countless ones before that, preparing to reveal themselves to their Littles. After preparing their baskets and putting them in the Formal living room, it was time to "string" the house and the yard, and wait at the end for the Freshmen to come find them.

As the Freshmen neared the end of the hunt, their Big Sister jumped out to surprise them and then took them out to dinner. KD's ended the night with a movie sisterhood in the basement ("Baby Momma" was naturally the movie of choice).

Can You Feel It?

Since our last check in, so much has happened at the Kappa Delta house. Our New Members attended their first Husker game where the sun was shining, the sea of red was in full force, and a Nebraska victory over Southern Miss was much appreciated. After a Labor Day break, the New Members headed over to the People's City Mission of Lincoln for a community service project at their free medical clinic.

Although the day began with laughter and lots of cleaning, the best part of the experience was learning more about the mission and getting a tour of the facility from the Clinic Manager, Steve. We learned that the People's City Mission houses a community of about 400 people, and about many other volunteer opportunities they have available for college students. It was great to get to know more about the organization we were volunteering at, and to see many of the New Member's enthusiastic about returning to do more projects at the mission.

As we wrapped up a weekend of community service, the New Members are gearing up to find out who their Big Sisters will be. With Big Sister/Little Sister Reveal in only a week, the Bigs have put their crafting into overdrive and are making some really special baskets, while the Little's are racking their brains and trying to figure out who left clues in their cubbies. This week is always such a special time for the women and Kappa Delta, and we can't wait for the reveal on Saturday.

We're Gonna Make This Place Our Home

The first week of school has flown by and our new Kappa Delta's have spent a busy weekend bonding with each other at the Pi Chapter House. After their first Stage on Saturday, it was time to get out of the house and get a little crazy. Sunday afternoon the KD Freshmen crammed into their cars and headed out to a ropes course to test their limits and get closer with their pledge class.

After getting some silly team building games done, the girls suited up in helmets and harnesses and took on the giant wooden alpine tower. In teams of 4, one Kappa Delta climbed the tower while three of her sisters belayed her from the ground. Through lots encouragement and cheering, a few girls reached the top of the 50 foot tower and threw their KD's in the air. When it was time to come back to the ground, the climber jumped from the tower and three sisters lowered her down.

After a great first week under our belts, we can't wait to see what's still to come for the New Members.  With more Stages, Big Sis/Lil Sis Reveal, and Initiation all on the horizon, we think it's safe to say we have a lot of memories to make in these coming weeks. Each of our New Members has so much to bring to our sisterhood and we love that they've decide to make this place their home.
